June 2009 - Merlot, Scotch, and Cigars

While I think it is safe to say that most of us in Wine Club are regular wine drinkers, it is nice to know that the forum is expanding the wine taste and experience of many also. Of course, you don't neccesarily have to come for the wine because the friendships that are developing along the convivial atmosphere usually make for a fun evening. I guess the best evidence of this is that Rob (who has been a member since the group started two years ago) said this at the end of the last wine club....In response to Molly's suggestion that all the red wines were pretty good that night: "A red's a red as long as it doesn't get me sick." I got a chuckle out of that! But, at the most fudnamental level, I guess it's true!

All the wines we had this evening were solid, drinkable, and voted "*Would Drink Again." Check out the side bar for Kristi's recipe for Oat n' Toffee Bars, which were apparently highly addictive! Just ask Sticky Fingers.

Oh, and one last note...if you take anything away from this blog entry, it should be this last piece of wisdon from Thane: "You can't go wrong with a monkey. Monkeys are good."

See you next month!

$12.00 Wines
Cupcake Merlot, 2007, Central Coast CA - no tannins to speak of

Trace Merlot, 2007, California - no tannins to speak of

Toasted Head Merlot, 2005, North Coast CA - hmmm...how would I describe this wine???? PEPPERY! with medium tannins and relatively dry

Red Rock Winery Merlot, 2006, California - light tannins

The scotch eliminated our ability to get into the $6.00 wines. The only one that the guys got around to tasting was the Glenlivet, which was solid as usual. Dave says to avoid the Highland Park.
