August 2008

Thanks to everyone for such a fun night! Wine Club really is the gem in my monthly calendar and this evening was even more special because the Trumpps were here from Nebraska. I think we were also glad the Molly wasn't in labor yet and was able to enjoy one more meeting before the babe makes an appearance. Thanks to the great weather, the guys were able to play liar's dice outside....and we learned that when six ladies gather around a table to laugh and catch up, we are apparently very loud. But who cares! It was such a great time. (Steph - are you thinking about opening a Stepford Suppers?)

No doubt, everyone was very happy with the wine we tasted. Overall, it is safe to say that the wines from this region were the most consistent we've had. There were some major favorites, but only because they were superior to the other very good wines. Here they are....

$12.00 Wines

Langmeil, Barosa Valley, Shiraz - Granache - Mourvedre blend, 2005

McWilliams, SE Australia, Chardonnay, 2005: very refreshing and crisp

Fifth Leg, W. Australia, Cab Sauvignon - Merlot - Shiraz - Cab Franc blend, 2006: This was Brian's standout favorite and for good reason... Great wine!!!

Greg Norman, Limestone Coast, Cabernet-Merlot blend, 2005

Red Knot, McLaren Vale, Shiraz 2006: This was Chris's favorite, another excellent wine.

Hill of Content, W. and SE Australia, Shiraz, 2005: This was the ladies' choice at the table....not only was the wine terrific, we loved the name too.

$6.00 wine

Fish Eye, California, Merlot, 2006

Black Swan, SE Australia, Merlot, 2006

Fat Bastard, France, Chardonnay, 2006 (I love the hippo on this label! It looks just like the hippo that Krista brought over for me. Coincidence??? I think not!)
